Home  //  XTN and RDX VHF Radio Compatibility
Update your old VHF XTN two-way radios to communicate with the newer RDX radios. It's easy, and just involves changing the radio's frequencies. Due to FCC changes with frequency allocation in the VHF band, the following applies for changing from an old XTN model to the new RDX models:

If you have VHF XTN Series radios (XV1100, XV2100, XV2600) and you would like the RDX Series radios (RDV2020, RDV2080d, RDV5100) to communicate with these, you will need to adjust the XTN models to frequencies 1, 2, 5, 6, 10 to 23, 25, 26 or 27 to allow them to communicate with each other. The FCC requires a license for these channels.

If, however, you wish to continue to communicate on the license-free MURS channels that were installed on the old XTN radios (but are no longer on the RDX/RDV models), you will need to purchase Motorola MURS radios.

These MURS radios will cross-communicate with old XTN/XTV radios on channels 3, 4, 7, 8, 9 and 24. Note that the new MURS radios will not communicate with RDV Series radios since they are set to separate VHF frequencies.
